La Vanguardia, a Spain’s local news publication, has reported that a custom built space will be created for blockchain development in the Barcelona Tech City. The second building is planned to be built near Pier01, which hosts more than 1,000 professionals from tech startups.
Pier01 is the headquarters of the Barcelona Tech City that opened in summer 2016. Prominent companies that will occupy the tech city includes blockchain network Alastria.
La Vanguardia has also mentioned that different buildings of Barcelona Tech City will be interconnected by electric vehicles. There will also be centers specifically built for health, gaming, and media.
The Alastria’s blockchain consortium includes as many as 150 member organizations. Last November software firm SAP expressed its intention to join Alastria’s blockchain network. Other members include Spanish banks, universities, and telecommunication networks.
The European Union announced February plans to open a Blockchain Observatory and Forum. Likewise, New York announced its plan to set up a Blockchain Resource Center in May.
