Minecraft Prohibits NFTs and Blockchain Based Offerings Based on its Game

NFTs will no longer be supported or permitted on Minecraft servers, according to an announcement made on Wednesday, July 20, by Minecraft. This move was reportedly taken to “guarantee that Minecraft players enjoy a secure and welcoming environment.”

According to the update, “Blockchain technologies are not authorized to be linked into our Minecraft client and server apps nor may they be leveraged to produce NFTs related with any in-game content,” such as worlds and skins, or other customizations.

NFT items based on Minecraft world files and skin packs have been published by various firms and authors, the site alleges. It mentioned additional recent innovations, such as the introduction of collectable Minecraft NFTs, the ability for gamers to win NFTs via server activity, and the ability to receive Minecraft NFT incentives for actions unrelated to the game.

As stated by the game’s developers, such practices violate the platform’s core principles since they “establish digital ownership based on scarcity and exclusion.” Additionally, there were questions raised about the long-term satisfaction of the player due to NFT investing’s risky aspect.

Some NFTs need third-party firms to manage assets, raising concerns about the digital assets’ long-term viability and sustainability, especially in the event that the management disappears without warning.

While acknowledging that in-game content has value, Minecraft has said that it will work to create a market where that value may be valued. There are no plans to incorporate blockchain technology at this time, despite a promise to keep an eye on developments in the field.
