The collaboration is a powerful recognition of the capabilities of SingularityNET, which include a blockchain-based, decentralized marketplace for AI algorithms and multiple complex neural network designs for computer vision and language interpretation.
Nevertheless, its largest initiative is a tailored variant of the OpenCog Advanced General Intelligence machine, a framework for robot and simulated embodied cognition that describes a collection of collaborating elements intended to create “human-equivalent AGI.”
AGI is an evolving unique sector within AI and some even consider it as an higher version of it. In essence, traditional AI applies to a machine’s capacity to mimic behavioral genetics, such as teaching and issue-solving.
But most AI designs stay quite basic, specializing in single-task teaching devices, be it image identification, practicing chess or learning medical information.
There is no clear definition of AGI, but most scientists agree that it applies to a machine which has the same level of intellect as a human being and is therefore capable of learning new ideas and roles just as a human being can, without any prior training such as “Star Wars” C3P0, “2001: A Space Odyssey” HAL 9000 and “The Matrix” Agent Smith.
And they claim that they have already achieved excellent strides, using justification technology from OpenCog to evaluate the performance of Cisco’s complex neural networks in an metropolitan traffic control framework to generate a model that can fully study new ideas by itself.
Hugo Latapie, principal engineer at Cisco’s Chief Technology and Architecture Office, explained the effectiveness of AI technology. “It was able to learn some of these things on its own: where the roads are, the sidewalks etc and determine what’s a potential problem with the jaywalking, cars on the sidewalk, collisions and other things. This is real, it’s functioning, and we’re actually looking at deploying this.”
Ben Goertzel, founder, CEO and chief scientist of SingularityNet, has stated that he trusts AGI will improve further from the above illustration. Over the next ten years, AGIs with higher IQs than human beings will become a common sight.
Goertzel said “We’re going to see AGI elements coming into play this year. Within the next couple years, you’ll start to see tremendously intelligent agents that start to really solve some of the problems that we’re having.”
Goertzel stated that SingularityNET was collaborating with Cisco to fulfill the need for an AI system that can conceptualize and study across various sectors.
Goertzel elaborated on the future prospects of the partnership
“The scale of the AGI deployments needed by a partner like Cisco is going to be tremendous, and we are working hard to make sure our AGI tools and our blockchain-based platform is up to the task. The work we’ve done with Cisco on smart traffic analytics using OpenCog’s logical reasoning and deep neural networks just scratches the surface. Let’s just say we have some much broader and deeper conversations going on.”
Holger Mueller, principal analyst and vice president of Constellation Research Inc., explained the importance of budding AI technology.
“AI is the most transformative new technology around and vendors need to cooperate to fully tap into the potential – from a research, talent and global perspective. But partnering is easy, delivering successful, working AI products is quite another thingt, so we will have to see what comes out of this new partnership.”
