The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and Cybaverse Academy Limited (Cybaverse Academy) have inked a Memorandum of Establishment to set up the “PolyU and Cybaverse Academy Joint Lab on Law and Web3” (Joint Lab).
With the rapid advancement of Web3 and blockchain technologies, policymakers throughout the globe are now working to create a legislative framework that facilitates their use. This Joint Lab will be the initial research facility in Hong Kong to concentrate on the convergence of law and Web3, including the creation of technology solutions and the investigation of applicable legal and industrial norms.
PolyU and Cybaverse Academy will partner to boost Web3 and blockchain security, safety, and privacy preservation. The purpose of the Joint Lab is to equip regulators as well as other participants with the necessary instruments to improve safety for the investing parties and the public.
CoinDesk ranks PolyU at the top of its list of “Best Universities for Blockchain 2022” due to the university’s competence in blockchain technology. The Research Centre for Blockchain Technology of PolyU, which is the initial research centre in Hong Kong to encompass study in full-stack blockchain technology, will deliver a Web3-related training course by harnessing the University’s strength in blockchain technology teaching and research. In addition to drawing on skills from computer science, finance,supply chain and marine research, and industrial and systems architecture, the Centre conducts multidisciplinary blockchain study.
The Memorandum of Establishment was inked on 17 January by Prof. Christopher CHAO, Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU, and Mr Paul LI, Managing Director of Cybaverse Academy. It was witnessed by Prof. Jin-Guang TENG, President of PolyU; Prof. Wing-tak WONG, Deputy President and Provost of PolyU; Mr Johnny MOK SC, Co-founder of Cybaverse Academy; and Dr Winnie TANG, Co-Founder of Professor Allen AU Man-ho of PolyU’s Department of Computing will serve as the Joint Lab’s Director. The Co-Directors of the Joint Lab will be Dr. Daniel LUO Xiapu, Associate Professor in the Department of Computing at PolyU, and Mr. Li of Cybaverse.
Prof. Jin-Guang Teng said, “PolyU is excited to partner with Cybaverse Academy in the Web3 business.” Combining PolyU’s expertise in blockchain technology teaching and research with Cybaverse Academy’s expertise in R&D and Web3 development, I am certain that this academic-industry partnership will have a significant beneficial influence in the near future. Hong Kong’s transformation into a virtual asset hub will be aided by PolyU’s groundbreaking blockchain research, which will be implemented in new solutions for the Web3 sector and contribute to Hong Kong’s growth as a hub for virtual assets.
