Open Campus Partners with Arbitrum Foundation to Launch EDU Chain

open campus arbitrum partnership

Open Campus, a decentralized education protocol, has announced the receipt of grant funding from the Arbitrum Foundation to support the forthcoming launch of EDU Chain. This blockchain initiative is set to be the first Layer 3 (L3) blockchain specifically designed for educational purposes.

EDU Chain: Pioneering Layer 3 Blockchain for Education

Through the Arbitrum Foundation grant, Open Campus aims to bolster the Arbitrum Ambassador Program with educational content initiatives and participation in hackathon competitions. The grant will incentivize developers to create decentralized applications (dapps) for the EDU Chain, including educational games. The EDU Chain’s innovative “Learn Own Earn” model aims to build an ecosystem of dapps that cater to learners and educators, emphasizing blockchain-powered ownership.

Open Campus plans to leverage its extensive network of over 60 education and Web3 partner companies, which collectively reach 20 million learners. This network will drive participation in the EDU Chain, facilitating the recording of learning achievements on-chain, expanding innovative education finance solutions, and developing dapps for deployment on the new blockchain.

The EDU Foundation is constructing the EDU Chain as an Arbitrum Orbit Stack L3 Rollup. This design enables EDU Chain transactions to settle on Arbitrum’s Layer 2 (L2) scaling solution for Ethereum. Consequently, it will offer Ethereum-level security with enhanced scalability, thanks to faster and cheaper transactions.

Strategic Partnership and Industry Impact

According to L2Beats data, Arbitrum currently holds the highest Total Value Locked (TVL) among all L2 networks, approximately $17.15 billion, ranking it the fifth largest blockchain protocol behind Solana, Binance Smart Chain, Tron, and Ethereum.

Yat Siu, executive chairman of Animoca Brands and a member of the EDU Foundation Council, noted that the grant marks a significant advancement for Open Campus and EDU Chain. He emphasized that the collaboration with the Arbitrum Foundation positions them to redefine the education industry by leveraging the power of decentralization and the Arbitrum ecosystem to enhance access to educational opportunities for learners and educators.

EDU Chain will be the first education-focused Orbit chain within the Arbitrum ecosystem. The collaboration aims to expand the Open Campus learner base and enhance content creation by connecting 96 active Arbitrum ambassadors and 26 affiliated universities with the Open Campus Foundation. This partnership will work on developing educational content to be deployed on EDU Chain.

Nina Rong, head of ecosystem development at the Arbitrum Foundation, expressed excitement about the launch of EDU Chain as an L3 on the Arbitrum Orbit Stack. She highlighted the Arbitrum Foundation’s dedication to nurturing a decentralized educational hub within the Arbitrum network.

Enhancing Learning Through Technology

Open Campus is a community-led protocol designed for educators, content creators, parents, and students. It aims to return decision-making about learning to educators and students, fostering a collaborative environment where teachers can create materials tailored to students’ needs. Additionally, Open Campus recognizes and rewards the achievements of teachers and content creators who contribute to students’ knowledge, opening new revenue streams for effective educators worldwide.

The Arbitrum Foundation, based in the Cayman Islands, is responsible for developing and nurturing the Arbitrum ecosystem. The Foundation operates as a neutral steward, supporting the ArbitrumDAO, continuous innovation of Arbitrum technology, and the development and education of the Arbitrum community.

Expanding Educational Content and Resources

Open Campus is currently working on projects to host user-generated educational games and similar learning experiences on EDU Chain, enhancing student learning through interactive and engaging content. These educational games and gamified learning tools will be launched by various content partners such as TinyTap, EduCup, and KIP.

The EDU Chain content hub, set to launch later this year, will include a diverse range of resources, including AI learning tools, video content, and traditional courses from top universities. Open Campus aims to offer a comprehensive educational resource platform with a strong focus on data sovereignty, AI, and decentralization. This initiative is designed to address the challenges learners will face in the future, ensuring they have access to a wide array of educational tools and content.

In conclusion, the partnership between Open Campus and the Arbitrum Foundation represents a significant milestone in the integration of blockchain technology in education. By creating the EDU Chain, they are setting new standards for security, scalability, and innovation in the educational sector. This collaboration is poised to transform how educational achievements are recorded, verified, and rewarded, fostering a more secure and trustworthy environment for learners and educators worldwide.
