Novo Nordisk Thailand has announced the successful adoption of a blockchain-powered traceability system to authenticate Ozempic® across the supply chain. This initiative aims to mitigate the rising threat of counterfeit pharmaceuticals while ensuring patient safety.
The presence of counterfeit medicines poses severe health risks, as these products may contain harmful or incorrect ingredients. Such items are often circulated through unregulated online channels and social media platforms, making detection and enforcement particularly challenging.
Blockchain-Powered Solution for Verification
To tackle these issues, Novo Nordisk Thailand has partnered with Zuellig Pharma to implement eZTracker, a blockchain-based verification platform. The system applies a unique 2D data matrix sticker on each sales pack, enabling real-time tracking and authentication of products. Initially launched for Ozempic® in Thailand, this solution demonstrates a proactive approach to safeguarding consumer health.
The company has emphasized its dedication to increasing awareness about counterfeit drugs, affirming that patient safety remains its foremost priority. By collaborating with Zuellig Pharma, Novo Nordisk aims to ensure the authenticity of its products and protect patients from the risks associated with counterfeit medications.
Real-Time Authentication for Enhanced Safety
Healthcare professionals, pharmacists, and patients are now able to verify the legitimacy of Ozempic® using the eZTracker app. Users can either scan the 2D QR pink sticker or manually input the product code within the app. A successful scan will immediately confirm product authenticity and provide detailed information about the medicine. In contrast, if a scan fails, it may signal the presence of a counterfeit product, encouraging users to report suspicious findings through the app for further investigation.
This technological advancement marks a significant step in combating counterfeit pharmaceuticals and strengthening trust in the healthcare ecosystem. The company believes the implementation of eZTracker will enhance confidence among both patients and healthcare providers, ensuring the safety and well-being of those relying on Novo Nordisk products.
By leveraging blockchain technology for supply chain transparency, Novo Nordisk Thailand continues to demonstrate its commitment to patient protection and innovation within the pharmaceutical industry.
