In response to the recent upgrade of the Lisk blockchain to the Optimism Superchain, Dutch startup Klayr Labs has unveiled plans to assume control of the Layer 1 technology, heralding the launch of a new blockchain named “Klayr” in June. Klayr Labs will be responsible for overseeing operations, maintenance, and ecosystem development for the Layer 1 platform.
Scaling Operations and Development
Headquartered in the Netherlands, the Klayr Labs team is swiftly expanding its workforce to attract more developers to the highly adaptable and user-friendly Layer 1 blockchain. Leveraging a meticulously documented SDK and years of proven performance, their primary objective is to empower digital ownership for one million individuals through the Klayr toolkit by 2030, thereby fostering the growth of a robust ecosystem of web3 users.
Transition from Lisk to Klayr
Last year, the Layer 1 blockchain Lisk announced its intention to join the Optimism Superchain. In a bid to preserve the extensive development efforts dedicated to Lisk and support the developer community opting to remain on its Layer 1, the leadership at the Onchain Foundation identified a capable leadership team from within the community. This team, comprised of Colecti founders, was entrusted with advancing the technology and ethos of the Layer 1 platform. The Colecti founders, seasoned tech entrepreneurs with a wealth of experience in blockchain applications and ventures, including the creation of Lisk’s inaugural digital asset and NFT marketplace, emerged as the ideal candidates for this task. In addition to their work with Colecti, they have also founded prominent entities in the blockchain space, such as the Lisk Center Utrecht and the Lisk blockchain explorer Liskscan.
Partnership for Sustainability and Support
Through a partnership with the Onchain Foundation, the Colecti founders secured technical support and funding for Klayr Labs for a minimum of two years, ensuring the continuity of the Layer 1 technology and ongoing support for developers and dApp creators.
“We have been deeply immersed in this ecosystem for many years, gaining intimate familiarity with the attributes that distinguish this blockchain as one of the premier Layer 1 solutions in terms of transaction speed, flexibility, and security, particularly its sidechain interoperability. We recognize the importance of offering developers greater flexibility in building on Klayr, which includes enhancing mainchain accessibility,” remarked Lukas Bronsvoort, co-founder and CEO of Klayr Labs.
