The blockchain platform will assist in putting an end to fraudulent documents related to academic qualifications.
The project was backed by the state government and guided by the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K).
KBA is the country’s first government backed academic and research organization to develop an in-house system to guarantee originality of course certificates.
It can be remembered that the decentralized and unalterable characteristic of blockchain makes modification of information a near unachievable task. The system is built to ensure transparency in certification procedures, while giving importance to the privacy of a candidate.
To begin with, the technology will be utilized to issue certificates for several courses conducted by KBA. Later on, universities and other educational institutions will be using it.
To verify a certificate, a prospective employer or individual can scan the QR code provided on the certificates using a smart phone and validate the originality. All the certificates issued by the institution will have a global identity in addition to a unique timestamp and block number.
The process increases the value of course certificates in the international job market as the KBA certified professionals will be able to easily complete their verification process and a potential employer will not have any kind of doubt regarding a candidate’s qualification at the time of appointment.
Notably, during last year’s flood, the institution offered technical assistance to the state government for recovering destroyed certificates. KBA offers courses in blockchain technology, which facilitates IT professionals to sharpen their abilities in the fast growing field.
