The Chedi Andermatt hotel in Switzerland just became the first in the country to let patrons pay using cryptocurrencies. As reported by Swiss news source Blick, customers are now permitted to settle invoices above 200 Swiss francs ($218) in Bitcoin or Ether.
Prices are fixed in fiat, in order to avoid cryptocurrency’s volatility risk. Any crypto received by the hotel is instantly converted into francs. Jean-Yves Blatt, the general manager of the hotel, believes that cryptocurrency will play a role in its day-to-day operations. “We have long recognized that cryptocurrencies also have a role in hospitality industry,” Blatt said.
“With the growing prevalence and recognition of cryptocurrency payments, we are pleased to be among the earliest Swiss luxury hotels to be able to provide cryptocurrencies as a safe method of payment to our guests.”
The Chedi Andermatt, which inaugurated in 2013, offers 123 rooms and suites that start at 1,300 francs per night in peak season, or approximately 0.03 BTC or 0.45 ETH. As per Coinmap data, there is also a holiday rental in the vicinity that accepts BTC. While many companies are beginning to embrace virtual currencies, Switzerland has long been welcoming to cryptocurrency users.
The Swiss canton of Zug, often known as “Crypto Valley,” is home to numerous blockchain and crypto companies, as well as tokens that are broadly used for a variety of uses in the region. Zug stated in February that for the foremost time, citizens will be able to pay their taxes in cryptocurrency.
