The ont_dev Platform consists of various tools that simplify the process of building and deploying smart contracts on Ontology’s blockchain.
The DApp product consists of a blockchain explorer, SmartX, a smart contract Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and Ontology test environment.
The announcement further states that Google’s listing of the ont_dev Platform make it “one of the first public blockchains to have a development platform on the leading cloud provider marketplaces.” The statement points to the fact that Ontology platform was being offered on the cloud marketplaces of Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure back in December 2018 itself.
OnChain, the Chinese company which built Neo blockchain and its native currency NEO, the 17th largest cryptocurrency by market cap, is also behind Ontology, a blockchain that aims to simplify the utilization of innovative technologies by companies. The project’s white paper says:
“Ontology is a blockchain/distributed ledger network which combines a distributed identity system, distributed data exchange, distributed data collaboration, [and others]. Together this builds the infrastructure for a peer-to-peer trust network which is cross-chain, cross-system, cross-industry, cross-application, and cross-device.”
The media release enabled ONT to break into the top 20 league of cryptos by market cap. At the time of writing this article ONT was trading at $0.9196, with a market cap of $570.08 million.
A few days before KT Corporation, South Korea’s largest telecom enterprise, revealed its intention to launch a blockchain-as-a-service (BaaS) platform.
Back in November, Japanese subsidiary of Microsoft partnered with LayerX, a budding blockchain startup, to “accelerate” adoption of the technology through the BaaS solution of Microsoft Azure.
