The system permits users to gain access to the network and engage with smart contracts via bespoke hostname. In addition, the latest product offering can be combined with the Cloudflare’s Interplanetary File System (IPFS) gateway introduced in September 2018: “In conjunction with the IPFS gateway, this allows hosting websites and resources in a decentralized manner.”
Cloudflare argues that while there is centralization of its gateway, it increases the overall trustworthiness of the ecosystem. The company also pointed out that it backs technologies that offer trust and believes the launched gateway will encourage decentralization.
Infura is another firm which raised centralization issue concerns. The firm, which is the infrastructure-as-a-service subsidiary of Ethereum-centered development enterprise ConsenSys that permits, decentralized app (DApp) creators to employ their DApps without hosting their in-house full node.
There has been a debate that by using Infura, programmers depend on infrastructure totally controlled by ConsenSys and deployed by Amazon Web Services, resulting in a single point of failure.
