Monte Produce, one of the world’s largest vertically integrated producers, distributors, and marketers of fresh and fresh-cut fruits and vegetables, has acquired a 39 percent stake in Decapolis, a Jordanian and United Kingdom-based startup technology company that offers blockchain-based food safety and quality traceability technology for the food industry.
The investment is part of Fresh Del Monte’s technology-driven commitment to developing innovative, best-in-class solutions for its goods and services, as well as sustainable solutions from which other companies and sectors may benefit. The two firms intend to implement Decapolis Food Guard, a blockchain-based traceability technology, throughout all Fresh Del Monte business divisions, beginning with Fresh Del Monte’s activities in Costa Rica involving pineapples.
Decapolis Food Guard offers comprehensive traceability solutions through the DFG chain of records, which captures evaluations at each step of production, from planting to distribution via QR codes. Deploying blockchain technology assures that data is immutable, and QR codes on product labels confirm traceability from beginning to finish. Anyone who scans the QR code will have access to a comprehensive record of product information from farm to fork.
This technique of traceability enables reliable record-keeping throughout the supply chain for consumer education, food safety, or quality analysis. Fresh Del Monte and Decapolis want to provide the Decapolis Food Guard to other companies.
“Consumers are more aware than ever of the ingredients in their food. With this blockchain technology, they would know precisely what went into the product and where it traveled up to the time it was consumed. Fresh Del Monte’s chairman and CEO, Mohammed Abu-Ghazaleh, expressed his company’s eagerness to use this traceability system for all of its goods.
Decapolis has successfully developed and implemented this solution across four continents in the business and governmental sectors. Today, Decapolis has high hopes for its cooperation with Fresh Del Monte.
“Our business consists on doing good. We undertake this venture with complete confidence in our organization, our products, our service, and the customers we serve. It will undoubtedly be a productive and successful endeavor, a multiplier of labor with great effects on communities, families, and the future of healthy living and technology. Abedalrhman Habashneh, founder and chief executive officer of Decapolis, said, “We are committed to achieving our mission of being the preeminent global platform for compliance and certification for food commerce globally.”
