Blockchain-Powered Messenger ‘Block Chat’ Unveiled by South Korea’s Blockchain Labs

Blockchain Labs of South Korea, developers of the Coov application for digital verification of immunization versus COVID-19, announced the launching of the world’s initial blockchain-powered chatting software, “Blockchat.” Blockchat’s superior security is a result of the absence of a central server, since messages and data are only saved on individual devices. The absence of this server, according to the firm, protects the messenger against threats such as the latest Kakao Talk outage triggered by a blaze at the firm’s data center.

In addition, Blockchat does not need distinct membership enrollment and login, therefore there is minimal cause to be concerned about personal data breaches. Users may also prevent advertisements similar to those in messengers that acquire personal details via membership enrollment and block random connections through a messenger, acquaintance referrals, and privacy breaches caused by contact data leakage.

According to Blockchain Labs, Blockchat’s message editing feature is a game-changer in the fight against cybercrime. Chat participants may edit both transmitted and received messages, thus even if the necessary material is disclosed, its veracity will be compromised. Modifiable data is thus inadmissible as evidence for any purpose.

Blockchain Labs Co-CEO Lim Byung-hwan stated, “Prevailing messenger facilities have recorded massive revenue from advertising via the use of customer data, so they’ve never been completely cost free,” adding, “I trust consumers who are fed up of arbitrary contact connectivity, unwanted visibility to ads, and misuse of messenger conversations reclaim control of their personal data through Blockchat.”

Blockchat is offered for download on various application store, with the Google Play Store releasing the complete service in November. In addition, the firm will provide file sharing, group chat, and voice-modified conversations.
