Japanese gaming giant, Bandai Namco, renowned for iconic franchises like Pac-Man and Tekken, has taken a leap into the world of blockchain gaming. Collaborating with Oasys, a gaming-centric blockchain network, and Japanese startup Attructure, Bandai Namco Research has introduced RYUZO, an AI-powered virtual pet game featuring a series of NFT-based digital creatures known as RYU.
RYUZO, reminiscent of the viral sensation Tamagotchis from the 90s, allows players to nurture and engage with their virtual pets. However, RYU offers a unique twist by integrating artificial intelligence to provide a more advanced and interactive virtual pet experience. Upon hatching, each RYU transforms into a soulbound token, ensuring its uniqueness and restricting transferability or sale.
One of the intriguing features of RYU creatures is their development of distinct personalities and unlocking of various abilities based on user interactions. Thanks to AI, players can feed and race their pets while witnessing the creatures learn and evolve. This enables players to create whole generations of pets within the application, offering a dynamic and evolving gameplay experience.
Before the official release of the game, 10,000 digital NFT eggs, called MARYU, were airdropped to holders of Oasys’ first series of NFTs in the “Oasyx” project. This strategic move not only built anticipation and excitement within the gaming community but also promoted engagement with the upcoming RYUZO game. The nurturing phase of RYUZO is set to last for a year, ensuring an ongoing and ever-evolving experience for players.
In addition to RYUZO, Oasys has unveiled plans for thrilling collaborations with notable game projects, including a crossover event with the popular blockchain game Brave Frontier Heroes. This partnership signifies a promising future for blockchain gaming, hinting at more exciting NFT releases on the horizon.
Bandai Namco’s entrance into the blockchain gaming space reflects the industry’s growing interest in adopting Web3 technology. It is worth noting that Bandai Namco is not alone in its venture into blockchain gaming, as other prominent game publishers like Ubisoft are also developing their blockchain games. This trend showcases the increasing potential and innovation within the blockchain gaming landscape.
As the popularity of blockchain technology continues to surge, the gaming industry is witnessing a paradigm shift. Blockchain-powered games are offering players more immersive and rewarding experiences, while NFTs are revolutionizing ownership and scarcity in the virtual world. With industry giants like Bandai Namco taking the lead, the future of blockchain gaming looks promising, offering boundless opportunities for both players and developers alike.
