Animoca and Lympo Partners with Chess Grandmasters to Develop a Chess-Inspired Blockchain Game

Animoca Brands and its subsidiary Lympo, a major global sports non-fungible token (NFT) ecosystem, said on Monday that they are collaborating with Play Magnus Group (PMG), a worldwide leader in the chess business that delivers entertainment and e-learning services through its chess market brands, to produce Anichess.

In a statement, Animoca Brands claimed that in 2023, they would release Anichess, a blockchain-based chess game with a play-and-earn ecosystem that will combine the chess and GameFi communities to offer new and exciting gaming opportunities.

Magnus Carlsen established PMG in 2013—the same year he won the World Chess Championship—with the goal of expanding the sport’s worldwide playing base by providing top-tier online services and content. PMG has approximately 60,000 paying customers each month and provides services in all aspects of chess for players of all skill levels and interests, from learning the game to competing at the highest levels to coaching and even just watching others play.

Anichess, a blockchain-based game inspired by chess, will be developed and launched under Lympo’s direction. Lympo is an experienced specialist in GameFi and Sports NFTs. Through its relationship with PMG, Lympo has access to more than 30 chess grandmasters, including Magnus Carlsen, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Liem Le, and others, who advise, monitor, and test Anichess as an immersive gaming experience for both seasoned and casual chess players, fans, and aficionados of strategic games.

The exclusive cooperation will introduce chess players to blockchain gaming and vice versa. PMG will invite renowned chess players to assist and advise on the introduction of chess engines in Anichess to help beginner players and offer enjoyable games for casual and advanced players.

Anichess will use Lympo’s $SPORT token as its main utility token. This token will operate as a gateway to the larger Lympo ecosystem, boosting the playing experience and value proposition of the game.

Chess has emerged as one of the esports with the most rapid growth. By working with PMG to develop Anichess, we will provide unrivaled experiences for chess players, casual gamers, and fans,’ stated Yat Siu, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Animoca Brands.

Tadas Maurukas, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Lympo, said, “The idea of Anichess will enhance the classic chess experience with a new fantastic strategic layer that will generate never-before-seen circumstances.” Established game designers, super chess grandmasters, esports stars, and casual players are collaborating to create a thrilling blockchain chess experience.

Animoca Brands asserts that it is the pioneer in digital entertainment, blockchain technology, and gamification, seeking to promote digital property rights and contribute to the formation of an open metaverse.

The company’s extensive catalog includes the REVV token and the SAND token, as well as unique games like The Sandbox, Crazy Kings, and Crazy Defense Heroes and items based on well-known franchises like Disney, WWE, Snoop Dogg, The Walking Dead, Power Rangers, MotoGP, and Formula E.

Companies under the umbrella of this parent company include: The Sandbox, Blowfish Studios, Quidd, GAMEE, nWay, Pixowl, Forj, Lympo, Grease Monkey Games, Eden Games, Darewise Entertainment, Notre Game, and TinyTap. More than 340 companies are now invested in its expanding portfolio, which includes Colossal, Axie Infinity, OpenSea, Dapper Labs (NBA Top Shot), Yield Guild Games, Harmony, Alien Worlds, and Star Atlas.

Subsidiary of Animoca Brands, Lympo is developing a GameFi product ecosystem built on NFTs from legally licensed athletes. It offers a variety of services, such as the NFT Minting and NFT Staking Platforms and forthcoming basketball management and chess-based play-and-earn games.

As the primary token in the Lympo ecosystem, $SPORT complements Lympo’s NFT operations. It has the intellectual property rights of more than fifty of the world’s best sportsmen, including Magnus Carlsen, the current five-time World Chess Champion and one of the greatest chess players ever.
