NEM Ventures, a blockchain focused venture capital fund, has acquired a stake in SharpShark, a Chile based firm capitalizing on Symbol blockchain platform to prove time stamping tool for content developers and safeguard their intellectual assets. The platform will also facilitate them to transfer or tokenize the content created by them.
SharpShark is structured for developers varying from researchers, authors and scribes to photojournalist, designers and craftsman.
The platform produces an electronic signature that will be rendered to text and images loaded on the Symbol blockchain. The info is saved in unalterable shape and is conformable with privacy guidelines.
Likely use cases of SharpShark extend beyond education, content platforms and media. The company has pointed out that writers and journalists can utilize SharpShark to identify copyright violation in all forms and establish a portfolio of their intellectual assets.
Kailin O’Donnell, Co-Founder and General Partner at NEM Ventures stated that:
“Existing timestamping solutions have fallen short and copyright deposits are extremely costly. SharpShark’s digital timestamping service records artwork, aiming to protect creators’ moral rights to their work by detecting plagiarism and copyright infringement.”
There is increasing evidence of blockchain technology’s effectiveness in resolving issues faced by digital content creators and ensure that they retain full control over their creations through copyright.
