A low cost blockchain mobile is making its debut in Southeast Asia, with a scheduled release in the US and Europe in the near future. Huobi Global unveiled the blockchain mobile “Acute Angle” for $515 on Tuesday.
Whole Network, a firm in which Huobi made investment, manufactures the Acute Angle. Also revealed today, the NODE token of Whole Network will get listed on Huobi Prime.
The Whole Network device can be bought with Huobi’s indigenous token, HT, for about half the cost, compared to rivals like Sirin Labs’ $1,000 “Finney” mobile. Acute Angle is presently offered in China with an intention to launch in Southeast Asia in Q4 2019 and is powered by Android’s operating system. Dates are yet to be given for the U.S. and European launch.
Huobi Global CEO Livio Weng opined that blockchain-powered phones have a great future:
“We think blockchain phones are a promising area for future blockchain industry development. As the industry develops and as innovations like 5G become increasingly integrated into our telecommunications systems, we believe more and more crypto communities will want to trade and transact from mobile devices.”
Acute Angle offers integrated crypto-ready functions such as push trade alerts, a dapp wallet, an additional cold-wallet plugin, and the indigenous token of the NODE. Acute Angle is the first in a series of Whole Network blockchain-based smart phones, Huobi said, with forward-looking plans for 5 G capable phones.
Whole Network is joining Samsung and Sirin Labs in the creation of telephones based on blockchain, etc. In August, Samsung introduced Bitcoin to its Samsung Developers Kit (SDK).
