Unikeys is launching a cryptocurrency card (hardware wallet) that facilitates transaction on the basis of biometric data. It’s a big step forward in the fight against fraud. According to the roadmap, the card is expected to reach the markets by December 2019. UKey card offers the simplest and secure way “to interact with the blockchain powered ecosystems.”
The UKey card offers solution to the problems of usability and transportability of the current hardware wallets. The company has started operations on a small scale, with trial in Hong Kong. This could easily lead to a blockchain debit and credit card.
A biometric card could prevent phishing scams that have cost millions of dollars and also the loss of consumer trust. The Ukey card resembles any other banking card, but is basically a hardware wallet which holds Bitcoin, Ether, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, and other popular cryptocurrencies. The firm is in talks with several companies to license the tech.
Unikeys has entered into an agreement with MeReal Biometrics in Hong Kong, which has received the technology and license from Sweden’s Fingerprint Cards. Upon activation, the user’s fingerprint is permanently saved as a secure authentication key. No transaction is possible with without a biometric confirmation.
The UKey smart follows the latest protocol of contactless integrated circuit cards. The card is ISO/IEC 7810 & 14443 compliant and has cleared all the required tests.
The UKey card avoids the need for USBs. The encrypted NFC and Bluetooth features empower users to design their own contactless payment experience from anywhere and a range of devices.
The EMV chip allows a user to safely deposit and withdraw cash at affiliated cryptocurrency ATMs. The EMV chip technology, which is incorporated into the UKey Card, is capable of fighting counterfeit fraud with its powerful authentication ability.
Unikeys permits merchants to easily and securely accept payments in cryptocurrencies. The payment processor offers the possibility to set up custom built allocations and conversion of cryptocurrencies.
Hack proof
The UKey card offers the possibility to store up to 8 fingerprints, however the user can decides beforehand how many fingers he wishes to record and use as authentication keys. The private keys are isolated inside the card and can only be utilized to sign transactions through an accurate fingerprint authentication. Even if the user’s phone gets hacked, the hacker won’t be able to retrieve the private keys.
